Your wedding day is one of the most meaningful days of your life, and the people you choose to document it will shape how you remember it for decades. With so many options, how do you find the right photographer for your day? Here's what we'd tell a friend.
Every photographer has a style. Before you start searching, notice what you're drawn to:
Look at full galleries, not just highlights, and choose someone whose work feels like you.
Know what's included before you compare prices. Things that change the investment include hours of coverage, the number of photographers, film photography, albums, and travel. Your photos will outlast almost everything else from your wedding, so prioritize quality where you can. Read more: How much should you invest in wedding photography?

Look for reviews that talk about how the team made couples feel, not just how the photos look. Pay attention to words like calm, present, flexible, and trustworthy, and to whether they've worked at venues like yours.
Your photographer will be beside you for most of your wedding day. Get on a call, ask about their approach, and notice whether you feel at ease. That comfort shows up in your photos.
Ask how many weddings they've documented, whether they know your venue, and how they handle rain, delays, and the unexpected. Experience is what keeps your day calm when plans change.

Before you sign, make sure you understand what's delivered and when, the payment schedule, cancellation and rescheduling policies, and how you're allowed to use your photos.
Some teams include videography, second shooters, engagement sessions, film photography, or help building your timeline. These can make your day richer and far easier to plan.
At the end of the day, choose the people you connect with. If you trust them and love their work, you're in good hands.

For nearly ten years, we've documented weddings across the US and around the world. Our approach is simple: present, not produced. We look for the moments that happen on their own, guide lightly when you need it, and never turn your day into a performance.
